KAYE COWHER, the wife of Bill Cowher, former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach died on Friday July 23 at the age of 54 from skin cancer. Kaye was an athlete and played one season for the New York Stars and two with the New Jersey Gems in the Women's Professional Basketball League. Kaye Cowher also received an athletic scholarship.
Kaye Cowher and Bill Cowher met when they were at North Carolina State University in 1976 and married in 1981. The Cowhers have three daughters, Megan, Lauren and Lindsay and all three are basketball players, like their mother, Kaye Cowher.
The Cowhers moved to Raleigh, N.C., in 2006 after Bill Cowher retired from coaching the Steelers in order to spend more time with his family. Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach, Bill Cowher led Pittsburgh to victory in Super Bowl XL and amassed a 140-90-1 record as the team's head coach over 15 seasons.
At present Kaye Cowher, the wife of Bill Cowher, former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach was a member of the North Carolina State Board of Visitors, an honorary body that advises the chancellor and board of trustees. Kaye Cowher's funeral services will be held on Monday July 26.
