Bird protection drive launched in Jaipur as bird causalities increase due to unusually hot summer
Early morning today, in Jaipur, Rakshak NGO, initiated a drive to protect the birds in Jaipur dying due to intense heat is summer and lack of feed and water for them.

Being the time of summer holidays, school students and animal protection activists were mobilized in different localities from Vidyadhar Nagar area of Jaipur to put up water trays on the trees and terraces.

"While birds have instincts to find water and food, but during summer in Rajasthan, birds require assistance for their life-sustaining tasks especially in urban and suburban areas which have turned into concrete jungles," said an activist.

It is true that drying up of the water bodies and their shrinking number in urban areas and the loss of biomass to pesticides being used to maintain the parks along with air and water pollutions are making small birds extinct in big cities of Rajasthan.

The people are being urged to put up water trays, birdbaths or other water features along with cleaning them regularly and kept filled with fresh water. Also bird feeders should be washed and dried up every week and filled with small grains.

The house gardens and land by the side of streets is needed to be maintained in a bird-friendly fashion with native plants. People are being requested to convert some area of their backyards in wild areas with bushes and thorny tress to work as food and shelter area for birds through the summer.

Also, it is being told that the residents that they should avoid or minimize tree pruning and trimming to prevent disturbance to nesting birds. Also, avoidance of mowing grass until rainy season starts.
