Birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Sahib celebrated with devotion and fervour
In Punjab, at Amritsar and Anandpur Sahib, the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Sahib was celebrated with great fervour and devotion.

Thousands of followers had holy dip in the sacred tank around Harmandar Sahib on Saturday morning to offer prayers on the occasion of the 349th birth anniversary of the 10th Sikh Guru Gobind Singh Sahib.

Devotees visited gurdwaras across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and other parts of the country to offer prayers.

As the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Sahib carried forward the sanctity of Guru Nanak to be known as a spiritual master, warrior, poet and philosopher of a great caliber.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to the people on the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Sahib, the 10th guru of the Sikh religion. "Salutations to Guru Gobind Singh ji on his Prakash Utsav. His bravery and service to humanity is always remembered and widely cherished," he tweeted.

Next year, the 350th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Sahib will be celebrated in a big way in Patna Sahib where he was born in 1666. The Punjab government has already worked out a three-day plan for it.

In 2017, throughout the year various events will be held including seminars on life, works, history and philosophy of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib. The meaningfulness of dissemination of Guru Sahib's ideology has increased during the present era of rising communalism and social partitions," the spokesman said.
