Taking a cue from BJP patriarch L K Advani, senior BJP leaders Kalraj Mishra and Rajnath Singh have also boarded the Rath with a hope that it can carry them to the corridors of power in Uttar Pradesh.
IT SEEMS the leaders of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) have got no faith left in their veteran L K Advani who decided to take out a ‘Rath yatra’ called Jan Chetna Yatra against corruption and price rise from Bihar and hence BJP leaders like Kalraj Mishra and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Rajnath Singh decided to take out their own ‘yatras’ in Uttar Pradesh where assembly elections are due in 2012.
The BJP leaders, therefore, launched two “Jan Swabhiman” rath yatras from the temple towns of Mathura and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday with an aim to reach out to the masses and tell them about the scams and loot that were going on unabated at the centre under the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rule as well as in the state under the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) rule, and to make the electorate aware before elections so that voters can go out and support the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidates in the upcoming elections.

Senior B J P leader L K Advani flagged off the Kalraj Mishra led rath yatra from Varanasi while NDA convenor and Janta Dal United national president Sharad Yadav and the leader of opposition, Sushma Swaraj, flagged off the rath yatra in Mathura that was led by Rajnath Singh. Senior BJP leader Uma Bharti while addressing the gathering in Varanasi said L K Advani would be the next Prime Minister of India. However, L K Advani told the media persons present on the occasion that his aim was not to get any post but to make people aware about the scams and loot that took place right under the nose of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. Advani said he was surprised to see some of the reactions that were coming in the media regarding his ambition for the post of PM. L K Advani said, “the 2G scam in telecom, Commonwealth Games, Adarsh scam in the housing scheme in Mumbai that happens to be on the Defense land, etc have exposed the UPA government. It is also strange and unfortunate to see that nobody in the government is rally keen and interested in fighting the menace of corruption. Thanks to the judiciary, the public accounts committee (PAC), the comptroller and auditor general (CAG) and the media who have been fighting the demon of corruption. They are just not only fighting it but also bringing the black deeds of the UPA into public domain.”
Advani said the government was also not serious on the issue of bringing the black money back from the foreign banks. They have no clear policy on that. They are just misleading the people of this nation on black money. Firebrand BJP leader and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti while addressing the people converged at the Bharat Mata temple ground in Varanasi said “any leader who starts his political yatra from the town of Kashi Vishwanath (Varanasi) gets the blessings of Lord Shiva and then nobody can stop him from becoming the PM.” She gave the reference of late prime minister V P Singh who began his campaign to dislodge the Rajiv Gandhi government in 1989 from Varanasi and the Bofors issue helped him to reach the prime minister’s office. Now the L K Advani’s rath yatra will decide the future of BJP’s next prime minister while the rath yatra in Uttar Pradesh will decide who will be the next chief minister of state if the BJP led NDA government comes to power here. Will it be Rajnath Singh once again or will it be Kalraj Mishra? Well, we have to wait for some more time to get the answer.
