BJP may not gain post Modi-Salman kite flying stunt, but Salman may loose some fans: Muslim intellectuals
Bollywood's 'Dabang Khan' Salman Khan was recently seen flying kite and sharing lunch with Gujarat's Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate. The kite flying adventure which Salman claimed was nothing but a move to promote his film 'Jai Ho'.

However, this kite flying adventure, more than promoting his film, fumed some Muslim clerics who appealed the Muslim youths to shun Salman Khan as their ideal and stop watching his film.

After this adventurous trip to Gujarat a question that is prominently being asked is whether Salman Khan's promotional stunt has hurt Muslim sentiments? Or this adventurous trip is going to soften Muslim voters' stand in BJP's favor.

In our bid to find answers to the above questions we spoke to some prominent Muslim intellectuals.

Prof. Arif Hameed, Chairman, Deptt. of Political Science, Aligarh Muslim University:

Arif HameedLook Salman Khan is not any leader, he's just an actor, and there is no need to focus on such things.  He doesn't represent Muslim Community, but it is sad to see him with a man who has such a  controversial history. I personally think that any sane Muslim will only vote for Narendra Modi. I don't think that the kite flying stunt is going to influence Muslim votes.  But post this Salman Khan may possibly loose some of his fans.

Prof. Mohd. Badrul Alam, Deptt. of Political Science, Jamia Millia Islamia:

Mohd. Badrul AlamThere's nothing like this and Salman Khan was there to promote his film. People like Salman Khan doesn't represent Muslim community. Muslims do not bother about his mix up with Narendra Modi. Bringing stars like Salman Khan doesn't make any difference. They cannot influence Muslim Votes and people are smart enough to decide what is right for them. Every party is trying everything to woo the voters by doing all these kind of political stunts. I don't think this kite flying stunt is going to benefit Narendra Modi.

Qamar Agha, Sr. Journalist:

Qamar AghaThere is no such thing, media just blowing it out of proportion, and I personally don't think that Muslims were hurt by such type of incidents. Stars like Salman Khan come and go and they don't influence Muslim voters at all. It's like a small incident which happens and gets over. There are every type of people in the country. Some supported this event and some are against it. Muslim voters are smart enough they don't get influenced by these type of events.

Abdul Hameed Nomani, Spokesperson, Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind:

Abdul Hamid NomaniThis will not going to affect the Muslim voters at all, these people doesn't represent Muslim community, neither Salman Khan, or his father Salim Khan represent Muslims. Neither they have any political or social influence on the Muslims. BJP thinks that they have put forward a good step, but I think that it will not benefit him (Modi). People will vote according to their intelligence. There is no Salman Khan phenomenon in the Muslim as far as Muslim votes are concerned, and people only look at him as an entertainer.
