BJP outsmarted in the game of perceptual politics by the Congress, NC & PDP
Yesterday, when I heard that the PDP stoked claim to form government in Jammu and Kashmir in alliance with the National Conference and Congress, I was really surprised but then thought it's the best opportunity for the BJP.

They should allow the formation of the government which would in any case fall because of inherent contradictions and overlapping of constituencies. Alliance with Congress or BJP by any state-level party such as PDP or NC is complimentary but alliance by NC and PDP is suicidal because they represent the same core vote bank.

Then I heard Sajjad Lone's claim to form the government with support of the BJP and rebel PDP leaders. I thought that the BJP shouldn't be party to this at the moment and let PDP form the government. Within minutes news came that the Governor of J&K had dissolved the assembly. I really caught my head in both hands and then started pulling my hair. What a blunder? The BJP had fallen in to the trap of the opposition.

To understand this let me elaborate the situation for last some days. Sajjad Lone's J&K People's Conference has 2 seats and got the support of three independents. He also get support of Junaid Matoo of National Conference and now Mayor of Srinagar. It's also rumoured that some National Conference members are ready to support Sajjad Lone.

On the other hand rebel PDP leader Imran Ansari supported Sajjad Lone and claimed that he has support of at least 18 PDP MLAs. All these were being deliberated since BJP withdrew its support from PDA government. Ansari reached from abroad yesterday and the plan was that today (22nd November) in BJP's meeting at Jammu support to Sajjad Lone would have been declared.

When NC, PDP and Congress knew about it and sure that there would be a government in J and K supported by BJP and rebels of PDP and NC, they first panicked. Since June they were demanding for dissolving of the assembly. But BJP make sure the assembly remain under suspended animation so that Sajjad Lone could form the government.

Thus three parties despite their inherent contradictions decided to play a game of perception. First they spread news in hyper mode that an alliance is being formed by three parties. Assuming that Sajjad Lone may claim for government formation, PDP chief Mehbooba wrote a letter claiming numbers to form a government. NC and Congress although didn't confirm anything but gave some ambiguous comments as if they are looking in to such a coalition.

They successively put pressure on BJP to dissolve the assembly. BJP also panicked and suddenly dissolved the assembly. Technically NC, PDP and Congress forced BJP for dissolving the assembly. It's win for the opposition and blunder by BJP. NC, PDP and Congress were never there to form any coalition government. That proved the subsequent statements.

Farooq Abdulah immediately welcomed the decision. Gulam Nabi Azad said that they got a proposal which would have been discussed on 23rd whether to accept or reject the proposal. He also mentioned that Congress is never agreed to Mehebooba Mufti to be the CM. Omar Abdullah although said that his party is ready for election but questioned about the timing of Governor's decision.

Point is simple that if Governor called Mehebooba Mufti to form the government either she didn't form or she would have failed in floor test because NC at least couldn't support PDP and there were rebels in PDP party. Now BJP would be at the backfoot. The decision might scrutinised in the courts where BJP is likely to get a bloody nose. Of course neither Congress, nor NC or PDP will want to challenge the decision of Governor because if Courts revived the assembly they will be in problem. In any case some PIL warrior may take this case to SC and BJP would be in trouble. Further all the build-up during last four months with Sajjad Lone is going to be wasted. I am sure the rebels of PDP may not be elected in the next election. BJP might hold its Jammu bastion but then NC and Congress alliance is sure to get the majority.

Sometimes intelligent politics makes a party beneficial. It is most important for a party not to be out smarted by opposition's strategy. Here BJP is completely out smarted by Congress, NC and PDP on just a day's game of perception. They would be very satisfied to beat BJP in the game of perception and BJP must be beating it's head on a wall asking itself why the hell they took a decision in a hurry!
