BJP Parliamentary team assesses Imphal killing, endorses PR in Manipur
A Parliamentary team of BJP that arrived at Imphal on a two-day visit, has categorically stated the July 23 incident, as an open and shut case of fake encounter and demanded imposition of President's Rule in the tiny strife-torn northeastern state

A PARLIAMENTARY team of BJP, who arrived at Imphal on a two-day visit to take first hand account of the prevailing situation in Manipur in the aftermath of the July 23 incident of police firing at Khwairamband Bazar, has categorically stated that the incident was an open and shut case of fake encounter and demanded imposition of President’s Rule in the tiny strife-torn northeastern State.

Talking to mediapersons in the evening, after a whirlwind visits of the family members of the victim and the site of the incident, Prakesh Javedkar, party's national spokesperson who led the Parliamentary team, said, ‘it is an open and shut case and taking into accounts of documentary evidences and eyewitnesses, we are very much sure that it was a fake encounter’.

This being the case the judicial inquiry ordered by the Ibobi Singh Government has become redundant. Hence the suspended commandos should be booked under 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for committing cold blooded murder of Chungkham Sanjit and Rabina Devi and injuring five others," the BJP leader demanded.

He also assured that the reports collected from the victims’ families in addition to the comments given by various NGOs and party’s own assessment on the issue would be submitted to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister to do justice.

Coming down heavily on Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, Javedkar contended that ‘he ( CM) is guilty of four aspects- perjury (lying under oath) in the assembly on the July 23 incidents, using and patronizing some militant outfits only for his political advantages, conspiring the police department in terms of appointment , transfer and postings and guilty of not honoring the state human rights commission’.

The State unit’s party long demand of imposing President’s Rule in Manipur in view of failure of the State Government in all fronts stands authenticated, he added.

Earlier during the day, the BJP’s Parliamentary team comprising Bijoya Chakravoti, party’s National vice president; Raman Deka, the state president of BJP Assam Pradesh, Rajen Gohain visited the family members of Chungkham Sanjit, a former militant and Rabina Devi, a pregnant women, who were killed in the police firing.

Apart from visiting the site of the incident at Khwairamband Bazar, the Parliamentary team also called on Governor Gurbachan Jagat.

Manipur has been witnessing mass protest over the incident with public raising the demands for resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on moral ground and punishment of the police commandos involved in the killing.

The State Government had instituted a judicial inquiry to probe into the incident and seven police commandos suspended. But the public have insisted on dismissal of all the police commandos involved in the incident and their higher officers who tried to cover up the facts
