ONE SURE win seat for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is creating a lot of problems for the party as the veteran leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee is not in a mood to contest the elections. As the former Prime Minister is winning this seat since long, finding a candidate of his stature is becoming tough for BJP.

Sanjay Dutt’s candidature on a Samajwadi Party ticket and congress in a mood to lend it’s support to Dutt has made life tough for BJP as well as Akhilesh Das, Bahujan Samaj Party’s candidate for the prestigious seat.

BJP seems to be divided on Lucknow’s candidate. A lot of names are cropping up since last one year and now rumor market is becoming hot day by day, with new names coming in papers and flashing in news channels.

Some time it’s Shatrughan Sinha, the other time it becomes Sushma Swaraj, the other names, which are in fray since long are Mayor of Lucknow Dr Dinesh Sharma, a close associate of Vajpayee and member of Legislative Assembly from Lucknow Lalji Tandon, Brahmin face of BJP in UP Kalraj Mishra and former Mayor Dr SC Rai.

As far as Kalraj Mishra is concerned, he is not very keen in contesting elections. So, the main contenders are Dr Dinesh Sharma, Lalji Tandon and Dr SC Rai. As some sources in BJP believe that fielding a Brahmin candidate will be good for BJP’s prospects in winning the seat, it seems that Dinesh Sharma will make it.

But as the party is making it clear that Vajpayee will have the final say in deciding the Lucknow’s candidate, the cards are close yet. BJP don’t want to lose Lucknow seat because if this happens it will be very embarrassing for the party. Dr Dinesh Sharma’s proximity with Vajpayee and Kalraj Mishra is a known thing, it seems is nearing of getting the ticket.

But Sharma will face resistance from Lalji Tandon, as he is very keen in fighting the elections. So, the dilemma in BJP continues and it seems that things will not settle down until the elections are over.
