Contradicting earlier reports that Oscar Pistorius had murdered his girlfriend, the family of the South African athlete has said they have 'zero doubt' that he shot Reeva Steenkamp dead mistakenly thinking she was an intruder.
The reports also suggest that Pistorius did his best to save the life of his girlfriend. As per the Afrikaans newspaper Beeld, security guards and neighbours rushed to his house, where they saw the South African athlete carrying Reeva Steenkamp in his arms. Pistorius even gave mouth-to-mouth resuscitation hoping to save her life.
Pistorius, after the shooting incident, also called one of his close friends, Justin Divaris at around 3:55am in the morning, where he stated that Reeva has been shot. Pistorius said over the phone to his friend, ''There has been a terrible accident, I shot Reeva,” reported telegraph.co.uk.
After the incident, when his first court appearance took place on Friday, the athlete sobbed uncontrollably. His family stood behind him during his court appearance as well and they were consoling him. The case reportedly has been postponed till Tuesday, as a result of which he is going to be in custody until his hearing.
The investigations are still going on. But Pistorius’ family claims that they are not going to ask him as to what exactly happened that morning. It might just add pressure. Henke Pistorius, his father said, "He is going to have enough of that, enough advocates asking him things over and over."
