At the time of blast, more than 312 were working underground in the mine.After four hour of rescue opeartion 66 miners are still trapped inside. Latest reports say that at least eight died in Metane gas explosion and 24 are seriously injured. Local media is reporting that the causality may rise, as the blast was huge. The mine is in the Kemerovo region, about 300 Km east of Moscow.
Mine blast is not uncommon in Russis, in Novemebr last, Nine people died in one such incident in an Iron Mine in Urals. Safety of miners is a much debated topic, amongst the world leaders, but the divide of developed and developing, doesn't allow to develop any consesus on the issue.
