Kevin presented a simplistic plate which was tasty won him the challenge. He won $30,000 and a trip to Top Chef finale and a chance to compete with Bocuse d'Or in Lyon, France in 2011.
Only four made it out of tonight's episode of Top Chef after the quickfire round and an elimination inspired by the Olympics of Culinary arts, the Bocuse d'Or. The surprise contender Eli Kirshtein wasn't going to let Bryan, Michael Voltaggio, Kevin Gillespie and Jennifer Carroll move past him into the semifinals. Jen's been sliding through in the last few weeks. Brian and Michael got too fancy to seld destruct themselves.
But what was interesting is to see Jen, Kevin and the Voltaggio brothers sail through despite varying mistakes.First off, Jen won the protein-within-aprotein quickfire. Jen stuck with sea food which he is better off. Brayn cooked lamb and ran out of time ending up with undercooked lamb but the judges were impressed with Jen's knowledge of culinary and ambition.
The judges were confused with Michael's dish on how the Mediterranean flavors came out. A bone in his salmon soup would have led to instant disqualification if this were real Bcouse d'Or. The judges did appreciate Eli's concept but Jerome Bcouse found the lamb chunks of fat hard to swallow while Jen sent out a scattershot of salmon that was unevenly cooked.
