ON THE pretext of freedom, the youth of today is resorting to unlawful activities, breaking all norms of the society. Earlier, such incidents occurred in foreign countries only. But, now in India too, this has become a common feature. In fact, Indian youths are currently taking up the negative traits of the Western culture, whereas they should have extracted good elements of the developed world.

Recently, a teenager was arrested by New Jersey Police as she had uploaded 30 nude photos of herself on her My Space page. She is now facing child pornography charges. The 14-year-old girl had posted the pictures on a social networking site as she wanted her boyfriend to see them.

This issue came in light after online information was provided to the cops. Obviously, this could have been viewed by many people who ‘befriended’ her on My Space?

While, My Space has not commented on the incident, but a team will appraise the content uploaded on the social network. The girl, who has been sent to her mother’s custody, may face up to 17 years in jail if convicted child pornography. She could also be placed on a state register of sex offenders. As per court, this case is just a wake-up call to parents.

In India too, cases of child and adolescent pornography are increasing day by day. Though we are living in 21st century, yet we should give freedom to our children up to limited extent, so that such incidents do not occur.

Nowadays social networking sites, surfing of porn sites are common among youths. Besides, making friends with girls and boys has also become very common among them.

One sided romance is another habit with the youths, which sometimes leads to crimes.

So, it is high time for parents that they should monitor the activities of their children and the youth too should behave responsibly.
