In Colombo, the stage is all set for the three days star-studded event of the International India Film Academy Awards (IIFA) 2010. The event is being organized in Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium from June 3 to 5, 2010.
IN COLOMBO, the stage is all set in exotic Sri Lanka for Bollywood extravaganza in Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. As per the rating of the National Geographic Channel, Sri Lanka is second best island of the world. The film festival will be start on June 3 and conclude on June 5, 2010. Many celebrities are planning to attend three days star-studded event of the International India Film Academy Awards (IIFA) 2010. It showcases Bollywood films and cinema with awards to the best actors, stars globally. Not only this, it is the biggest event of India’s film industry.
The big names from Bollywood like Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan etc are going to miss IIFA awards this year but organisers are leaving no stone unturned to give the venue splendid renovation. The island is expecting a massive growth in tourism and economy. The film festival will also see performances from Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez, who has already entered Bollywood. A charity cricket match will also be played between the Indian celebrities and Sri Lankan cricketers. Hrithik Roshan and Sunil Shetty will be the captains of two film stars team. The money collected from the match will be used to rehabilitate former LTTE children soldiers.
The stadium is decorated with state-of-the-art lighting system available in the world; in-built system is specially flown from Germany, which consists of 600 moving lights like fixtures.However, trouble seems to be developing with South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC). The SIFCC has threatened to boycott any Bollywood star that turns up for the function in harmony with the Sri Lankan Tamils. Most people believe the gala event might send wrong message and hurt Tamilians’ sentiments. Southern celebrities like Kamal Hasan and Khushbu are skipping the award ceremony to avoid getting in trouble. Director Mani Ratnam has already announced his pre-occupation with his forthcoming movie ‘Raavan’.
Meanwhile, other Bollywood stars like Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Ranbir Kapoor will add to the glamour. Lara Dutta, Boman Irani and Ritesh Deshmukh will host the event.
