Bollywood is exploring different global places with its film and it is reaching out to the global audience with its choices. People living in India are also getting a taste of the global world.
IT HAS been an age old practice of Bollywood directors to choose foreign locations for their films. It all became popular in the 80’s when we saw Sharmila Tagore, Amitabh Bachchan and even Rishi Kapoor rolling on the ice slopes of Switzerland and the traditional is still carried on. These days the producers and directors of the Hindi film industry are all flocking to Thailand as per a Thai official.
Tomwit Jarnson, Royal Thai Consul General based in Mumbai told a reputed media house, “More than 100 films from India are shot in Thailand, and be it Bollywood films or documentaries or ad films every year. We are actively pitching Thailand to Bollywood as a favoured shooting destination.” The main reason according to him is that Thailand is a very cool country as far as legal matters are concerned and the costs of things there are also less.
If one remembers, Thailand was long ago discovered in the Hindi teleseries business by a serial called Hubahu but no one at that point of time tapped into the market then. Then even MTV Roadies Season 5 went to shoot a few episodes in Thailand. Now it seems that Bollywood is taking inspiration from these series and exploring the beautiful place.
Very recently a lot of Bollywood have been shot in the European countries as well. The Akshay Kumar starrer Patiala House was shot in London, South hall, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire. Haunted, the horror movie, which made its mark due to its 3D part was surprisingly shot in America.
The beautiful of house of Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan in Salaam Namaste on the seashore was Australia. Germany was the latest choice for Farhan Aktar’s Don 2 and very soon we would be able to visit that place with SRK.
The Asian countries are also a beloved of the filmmakers and have been extensively used by them. To name a few would be Singapore where we have seen Hrithik Roshan doing antics for Krrish. Love Impossible was another film that was shot in Singapore. Even Sri Lanka is becoming popular thanks to Salman Khan’s Ready.
Recently we saw Spain through the eyes of Zoya Akhtar and visited Barcelona and even witnessed the famous bullfights in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara. Bollywood is quite prominent in the International film business and with the exploration of these global places it is actually reaching out to its global audience.
