Bollywood singer Lata Mangeshkar to receive Laadli Voice of the Century Award
The 6th edition of National Laadli Media Awards for Gender Sensitivity for the year 2013-14 will be held on the evening of March 20, at NCPA (Tata Theatre), Nariman Point in Mumbai. The awards have instituted by the Population First (PF) - an initiative for gender equality and community empowerment.

At the award function presided over by the Maharashtra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar will be presented the Laadli Voice of the Century Award. The function will be attended by the top officials of UNFPA and Consul General of Canada, informed communication manager of Population First.

PF also presents the Laadli Media and Advertising Awards to honour, recognize and celebrate the efforts of those in media and advertising who highlight pressing gender concerns since 2007 as a pan India event supported by UNFPA.

It is learned that some articles of citizen journalists on gender issues were considered for the web category award, but could not make it to the final list.

It is believed by PF that Media, Advertising and youth can be instrumental in bringing about gender sensitive policies and programmes as well as promote a more positive image of women in society, thus impacting the gender and social development indices.

Keeping this view, the Laadli advocacy initiatives open up channels of communication, dialogue and negotiation through various innovative initiatives using the existing communication opportunities.
