TWO HEAVY IED bombs were recovered from a railway track under Balipara bridge on NH-52 in Sonitpur district, Assam, by 17 Maratha Regiment.
According to a senior army officer, the National Democratic Front of Bodoland, one of the militant groups present in this region are suspected to have planted these bombs. The NDFB militant group have been disrupting peace for the last couple of months in the Sonitpur district near Assam and Arunachal Pradesh border. There have been lots of gun exchanges between security personnel and the militant group in Assam.
The army said that if these IED bombs had not been found in proper time, the ensuing blasts would have been a serious jolt to the establishment. According to army sources, the powerful bombs weighed 8kg and 4kg respectively.
In the light of this recovery today, the NF Railway cancelled three trains – namely Rangya Junction to Murkang Seleng , Rangya to North Lakhimpur and North Lakhimpur to Rangya.
