Book on Sarkozy could result in yet another political sandal
'Sarko m'a tuer' (Sarko Killed Me), a book by two investigators Gerard Davet and Fabrice Lhomme released today. It is feared that the book might start another political and financial scandal in France.

MAGISTRATE ISABELLE Prevost-Desprez has made a revelation in the book about France President Nicolas Sarkozy that might start another political and financial scandal in the country as witnessed almost 12 months ago. Desprez revealed that she had learnt it from someone that Sarkozy had received money from Liliane Bettencourt, the richest woman in the country.

"Liliane Bettencourt's nurse told my stenographer, after being questioned by me: 'I saw cash payments to Sarkozy, but I couldn't say it in my statement'," Miss Desprez is quoted as saying. Refuting Desprez’s claim the president’s office said that it was scandalous, unfounded and untruthful.
Echoing similar views, Jean-Francois Cope, head of Sarkozy's UMP party, added that Desprez’s statement could not be trusted especially because it comes at a time when the country is set for presidential elections.

Desprez is not the only one; several other magistrates, politicians, businessmen and social figures have also claimed that the Sarkozy government was tough on them. There interviews with the two authors are also published in the book. This revelation about the Sarkozy government is not a new one, it all started in 2007 when Francoise Meyers-Bettencourt, daughter of Liliane, dragged photographer Francois-Marie Banier to court claiming that he had robbed her mother of billion of Euros in life insurance, cash and artworks. An investigation was soon started, which unveiled a bigger political scandal and information about illegal financing of Sarkozy’s party. Investigation still continues in the case.
