A recent book release function debated the nuances of the paradigm of federalism as outlined in the Festschrift 'Varieties of Federal Governance: Major Contemporary Models' to Prof MP Singh.
THE BOOK, which was released at the University Guest House in the University of Delhi, is an edited volume comprising collection of essays in the honour of Prof. Singh, who has been a towering academic personality at the Department with his insight, learning and research. The Festschrift - which is a name given to a volume of articles, essays, etc., contributed by many authors in honor of a colleague - has been edited by Dr. Rekha Saxena, Associate Professor, Deprtarment of Political Science, University of Delhi.

The editor of the volume, Dr. Saxena remarked that federalism is becoming a popular idea in the discourse on Government and Governance, next to the idea of Globalization and Democracy and this book attempts to highlight the major contemporary models in federal governance in the world today. Dr. Ash Narain Roy; columnist and Director ISS, opined that nuances of evolution of federations make it essential to learn from various models. Prof Achin Vanaik held the need to understand the federal processes from the democratization lens. Prof P.K. Dutta, Head Dept of Political Science, DU commented to expand the study of federal models to new areas like Africa. Prof. M.P. Singh pointed towards new areas of research in Federalism like treaty making powers and neo-liberal era, changing dynamics of party politics, coalition alliances, emerging dynamic role of Judiciary, amongst others.
The program was organised by NGO Respect India and its President, Mr. Manish Kr. Chaudhury thanked the audience for their over-whelming presence.
