Book review - Adolescent Education: A Reader
In many parts of the world, the complementary short term interventions on adolescent education are being implemented for school students but the rub is that teachers transact in the courses more or less in conventional ways by using power point presentations.

The serious teachers and educators, who wish to build a sound background on the topic and learn about the pedagogy of adolescent education, the book "Adolescent Education: A Reader" seems quite relevant.

The book that runs into 300 odd pages is a collection of carefully selected articles, write-ups and essays that provide a cross-disciplinary approach to understanding adolescents as well as their needs and concerns.

The authors of various essays on different topics which have been edited by Joseph L DeVitis, Linda Irwin-DeVitis compel the readers to think about adolescents and adolescence in the right perspective.

The book, though dwells on the complexities, myths, misconceptions, contradictions, confusion, challenges and concerns surrounding adolescence in American culture and education, but in a globalised and internet dominated world, the situation in most countries is the same to understand the common dilemma of adolescent.

The book is pertinent of the curriculum designers, since a good number of essays spell out the appropriate and tried out methods of the transacting adolescent education. The educational and pedagogical strategies could be helpful in making adolescents to grow as responsible and contributing adults in the present uncertain and challenging world.

The book recommends that for secondary and senior secondary schools respectful, nurturing, and empowering autonomous learning techniques should be used to challenge adolescent students self-learn to grow intellectually, emotionally, and socially to become worthy adults.

The book and its editors rightly say that this timely book will appeal to teachers, teacher educators, education and social service professionals, policymakers, and all those interested in bettering the lives of adolescents in the present social scenario.
