Book Review - Building Golden India: How to unleash India's vast potential and transform its higher education system
The book "Building Golden India: How to unleash India's vast potential and transform its higher education system" is an inspiring and pertinent book when India is the anvil a New Education Policy to revamp its education system. The book not only describes the challenges of higher education in India but also provides solutions to current problems it is facing.

The analytical approach with which the book has been presented shows the way how builds a 'Golden India' by unleashing the potential of its 1.3 billion people and transforming its higher education system.  It is true that if a vision can be crystallized vividly, it can be planned and managed for its realization. And, the book really shows that way how India can become the foremost educational leader in the world.

Authored by Shail Kumar, the Past-President of the IIT Foundation, the book has been written in a way that it becomes an interesting reading with box-items and some of the relevant graphic organizers created by the author himself. Even the administrators working in the education sector and those associated with policy formation can benefit immensely. The book, in fact, can benefit all the educational functionaries such as teachers, educators, educationists, educational scientists, policy framers, educational planners and administrators. The book is a must for the libraries of various educational institutions.

Personally also, after a long time, I have come across a book on an educational topic which is well researched and insightfully analytical, yet so interesting to read because of its presentational style with inclusion of graphics and illustrations.  The best part is that it shows the path to achieve the goal of quality education trough suggestions, solutions and models combining the critical and creative thinking skills. The book is an excellent blue-print for reconstruction of Indian higher education to become the fore-runner for globally-recognized quality education.

The book published by ONS Group Press is divided into four sections progressively from context to challenges to benchmarking to solutions. This sequence of organizing the content of the book makes it readable to different kinds of readers from lay-persons to professional to administrators. The author describes the present Indian higher education system as fragmented and highly disconnected while presents the case illustrations for benchmarking the quality of education.

The book, spread over 290 odd pages, is also punctuated by narratives and quotes of thinkers and educationists to make the reading enjoyable and gripping. Transformation is hard and committed work and author is full of optimism that once again 'Golden India' will emerge. It is a timely and captivating book which is a must who are interested in quality higher education.
