Book review - The Heart of the Soul: Emotional Awareness
The book "The Heart of the Soul: Emotional Awareness" by Gary Zukav, Linda Francis is one the best sellers related to self-development through understanding one's emotions and managing them.
I came across the book in Toronto in one of my relative's house and finished it in three days time since it makes use of visual symbols and messages which in turn make reading easy but with profoundness.

The book, when read and mulled over along with some practical aspects, not only makes you emotionally intelligent but can also help in your spiritual growth. The authors with their deep psychological insights and sound spiritual knowledge establish the thesis that emotional awareness is the key to spiritual growth.

According to the authors, learning to experience emotions and managing them can be difficult task but it can be mastered. Often we get caught unaware in emotions and suffer; therefore, cultivating emotional awareness is essential.

The paperback, spread over 304 pages, has been published by Free Press. The book holds that emotional awareness is becoming aware of everything that you are feeling at every moment. The authors maintain that becoming aware of our emotions means becoming aware of pain, which is challenging, difficult, and unpleasant.

However, cultivating awareness is highly rewarding for a life free from compulsions, fixations, obsessions, and addictions, in which we act with an empowered heart and are free of attachment to the outcome, inform the authors.

The suggestions given the book, when acted upon and practiced, can lead to our authentic empowerment. The book, in an understandable way clarifies the concepts of harmony, cooperation, sharing and reverence for life.

According the book, the significance of attaining an emotional maturity lies in the fact that it can eventually lead to soul realization as head-to-heart journey.

Here is my essence of the book as an ABC poem: A: aligning your persona with your spirit; B: Blame not anyone rather strive to change yourself; C: Consciousness is needed to be turned inwards towards inner energy system; D: Detaching from inner landscape of thoughts and feelings; E: Emotions get purified through love, optimism and trust.

It is a must- read- book for self-improvement buffs and useful manual for people working in field of education and psychology.
