Book Review: Handbook of Learning Disabilities
The book under review has gained importance due to passing of a Bill by the Indian Parliament on disability. The book can work as a source book for all functionaries connected with differently abled persons.
Since learning disabilities go unattended by mainstream education system and schools, the book is equally useful for professionals connected with special education, inclusive education, therapists and counselors.

The second edition of Handbook of Learning Disabilities brought out in late 2014 has become a comprehensive resource and reference material in the field of special education. The book talks in details about the nature and classification of learning disabilities (LD), their causes, and how individuals with these difficulties can be identified and helped to succeed.

The book has the contributions from lead practitioners and researchers in the area of learning disabilities which has been edited by H. Lee Swanson, Karen R. Harris, and Steve Graham details the concepts and methods that help the practitioners, special educators and therapists to improve their work. The book is also helpful to researchers engaged in learning disabilities and provides the leads for further investigation.

The book that runs into 716 pages also contains the best practices for supporting the performance of students with learning disabilities in language, arts, mathematics, and other content areas.

In the book published by Guilford Press, various contributors not only dwell the general principles of learning and classroom instruction but also critically review emergent issues in service delivery within response-to-intervention (RTI) frameworks. The revised edition incorporates key advances in identifying and remediating learning disabilities and the role of RTI.

The current edition has additional chapters on topics like social cognitive, behavioral genetic and neurobiological aspects of disability; adolescents and adults with LD; 21st century advances in LD research methods, advanced statistical models, single-case designs, and meta-analysis

Also, another important addition consists of practical work for special educators and clinical psychologists such as spelling instruction, history instruction, and classroom technology applications.
