Bookings open for the new Maruti Suzuki Swift 2018: What does the new model offer in comparison to the outgoing one?
Although the much-awaited next generation Maruti Suzuki Swift will be officially launched at the Auto Expo 2018, according to sources, dealerships across the country have already started accepting bookings for the car for a token amount of Rs 11,000.

India's leading auto maker, Maruti Suzuki, will unveil the new Swift at the Auto Expo 2018 being held in New Delhi from February 9 to February 11. The 2018 version of the Swift is expected to be priced between Rs 4.78 to 8 lakh. In this price segment, the car will directly compete with rival models like Ford Figo, Hyundai Grand i10, Tata Tiago and the Nissan Micra.

First unveiled at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show, the car is already available in international markets.

Ever since the next-gen Swift Dzire was launched late last year, everyone had been eagerly anticipating the launch of the third-gen Swift.

What changes has Maruti Suzuki incorporated in the new Swift that are expected to once again make the car a market leader?

Design & styling:

The next gen Swift has been given a new radiator grill which is sharp, edgy and looks more wider and dominating. The car also gets new headlights equipped with LED daytime running lights (DRLs), similar to those of the Baleno. The bumper has also been restyled to create space for new design fog lamps.

Another noticeable change is that the C-pillar has been given a black tinge in the area where it meets the roof, giving it a floating roof look, in line with the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Hyundai i20. The rear door handles have also been repositioned on the rear windows.

The wheelbase of the new car has been increased by 20 mm which would take care of the crammed rear kneeroom issue, for which, the outgoing version was infamous for.

Although the exact dimensions of the car are still not available, according to the released photos, the new version looks a little longer than the present one. The car also gets all new diamond-cut alloys to enhance the style quotient.

The rear end of the car has also been suitably modified and sports new squarish-shape tail lights.

At around 840 kg, Maruti Suzuki has cut the flab on the new Swift, keeping it lighter by almost 120 kg than its predecessor.

Features & equipment:

The 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift has a less cluttered dashboard with a flat-bottomed, multi-functional steering wheel. The instrument panel has a twin-pod design having analog display of speedometer and tachometer. The touchscreen infotainment system and the climate control unit that come in the high-end variants have been lifted straight from the Baleno.

Expected engine options:

Maruti is expected to roll out the new Swift in two engine variants, the 1.2-lite K-series petrol engine and the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine. Both with 5-speed manual transmission. The company might even consider throwing in an automatic CVT gearbox variant owing to the rising popularity of gearless cars.
