THOUGH BOTH India and Pakistan have recently resolved to expatriate each other’s citizens lodged in different jails of both the countries, but the recent incident of two Pakistani teenagers crossing border inadvertently, has further created ripples among the official circles, especially the security forces.
Two Pakistani brothers Azhar Ali, 19-year old and Zoaib, his 10-year old brother have been arrested in Barmer, Rajasthan for illegally crossing over from Pakistan. They claimed that they crossed over to India at the border at Munnabao because they had a fight with their parents on a trivial issue. Now, both the brothers want to go back home but the Indian security agencies have taken them into custody and will be questioning them.
Commenting on the incident, C Pawar, Deputy SP, CID said, ’’They came after crossing the border from Pakistan after having a tiff with their father and then, they stole some money and left home. They then boarded a train and came to Khokhrapar and crossed the border on foot crawling under the fencing, but the BSF personnel arrested them and handed them over to the police.’’ The police also recovered Indian currency notes from their possession besides a mobile charger, etc.
It is worth to mention here, that at this particular border in western Rajasthan, between India and Pakistan, families have been divided since 1947, so straying of people along the Indo-Pak border, including in Rajasthan is quite common. This has been a serious challenge for the Indian security forces because they (people) always claim to be the residents of the same area and speak the same language.
However, it is unlikely that they will be sent back soon because the procedure for sending back
Pakistani prisoners is a long one and they could well spend years languishing in Indian jails.
Both the boys were found wandering around by the villagers who took them over and handed them to the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel. The Indian security agencies are not entirely convinced with their story because the fact that these children dug a trench and illegally crossed over is a good reason enough for them to be taken into custody.
