BP Oil spill, Gulf of Mexico: Rift grows between the Govt and BP
Federal Representative, Thad Allen warned British Petroleum on Monday about a 'seep' near the company's busted Gulf of Mexico oil well.
FEDERAL REPRESENTATIVE, Thad Allen warned British Petroleum on Monday about a ‘seep’ near the company’s busted Gulf of Mexico oil well. In a sharply worded letter to the personnel at BP, Allen expressed his concerns at a newly detected seep near the oil well but at the same time not mentioning about what was coming through that ‘seep’.

In the letter, Allen has demanded that BP step up monitoring around the oil well as the seep has been detected at a distance from the well. Federal scientists are working with BP personnel over this seep.

In the past days, concern has been expressed over the markedly low pressure readings at the experimental cap placed over the well after the initial disaster; the low pressure readings indicated that there was a leak somewhere in the well bore.

This could lead to another disaster as the oil and gas might flow into the bedrock uncontrollably. BP’s shares fell by 3.3 percent as the news of the seep spread through the market.

The worried investors anticipating a growing rift between the Federal officials and the BP executives are looking to sell. Till now, this spill has cost BP over 4 billion USD.

Thad Allen has made it clear that the US government has been pressurizing the BP officials to remain prepared to open up the valves in the experimental cap, in order to contain the seep. BP has been focussing its deep sea robots and cameras on the oil spill, might have to look for more resources in order to step its monitoring of the oil well.
