Breast Cancer cases in India projected to double by 2015
It is one of the types of cancer, which, if treated, in time, can be successfully cured. All one needs to do is be aware and take precautions.

WOMEN IN India are still not comfortable in talking about breast cancer. They would rather live with it than divulge their pain, and this might be a reason for the fact that breast cancer has taken over cervical cancer to become the leading type of cancer in the metros -  with experts fearing that by 2015 patients would double. Although the disease is not that widespread as it is in America, yet these are the early signs of concern, and in Breast Cancer Awareness month, every needful step should be taken.

Talking about it P.K. Julka, professor of Oncology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, said that all the metros are facing a big threat as breast cancer is spreading fast. The incidence of breast cancer in India is less than other major countries but it has a mortality rate of 50 percent, which is of increasing concern.

Out of every 22 women one woman in India can develop breast cancer as compared to 1 in every 8 women in the US. This is a positive sign but if remedial action is not taken then the future for India regarding the same doesn’t look that bright. The count of breast cancer patients is expected to rise from 115,000 per year to 250,000 new cases per year by 2015 as reported in timesofindia.com.

There might be a number of causes for the development of breast cancer such as child bearing, breast feeding, higher hormone levels, late age of menopause, smoking, alcohol and economic status. Every year, around 10.9 million people suffer from breast cancer worldwide that results in 6.7 million deaths from the disease - with every country in the world having cancer patients.
