Brian Maupin had a good job, made a video and lost the job? This is what the 25-year-old Best Buy employee who posted a snarky cartoon spoof of iPhone 4 and HTC EVO 4G had to say about his iPhone 4 vs EVO 4G video.
BRIAN MAUPIN had a good job, made a video and lost the job… This is what the 25-year-old Best Buy employee who posted a snarky cartoon spoof of iPhone 4 and HTC EVO 4G had to say about his iPhone 4 vs EVO 4G video.
Brian Maupin iPhone vs Evo videos are posted on YouTube and have got some 1.7 million hits already. Maupin worked at a Best Buy branch in Independence, Mo., since 2007, was suspended from his job Thursday. Brian Maupin is almost sure of his removal from the job.He not only posted the video slamming both the iPhone 4 and HTC EVO 4G fans but used slangs freely. It is not a first time such a video slamming Apple iPhone and idevices have appeared on net but it is certainly a first time by a worker who sells the same phones.
As per the latest stats go, more than 1.7 million people have viewed the Maupin iPhone video on YouTube. It features two animated cartoons, one a salesman asking the other, an Apple iPhone fan to consider HTC Evo as it has more features etc. After this there is another video which is a rebuttle of Maupin’s iPhone video which targets Evo buyers. This video has attracted more than 357,000 views."They felt it disparaged a brand they carried (iPhone/Apple) as well as the store itself and were fearful of stockholders and customers being turned off to Best Buy Mobile," Brian Maupin said in an interview.Maupin further added that he was asked to quit but refused the request. At that point, Maupin says he was told of his suspension in advance of a review of the matter by the company's human resources department. "I issued a statement to them explaining that the video was intended to be comedic and hence, not taken seriously by them or all these stockholders and customers they are worried about [being] turned off to buying from them due to the video,' Maupin said.

Fire that guy and I'll never buy anything else from Best Buy for as long as I live.
Worse distortion of the truth I've read on this matter!
1. He hasn't been fired... yet and may not be!
2. No where in the videos does he mention Best Buy or that he even works for them.
Someone else who works for Best Buy told their boss at Best Buy, who just so happened to be a fan of Apple's iPhone. He went beyond the call of duty in asking for Maupin's resignation w/o knowing anymore than having watched the video.
Proof that this supervisor was in the wrong is evident in that it's now gone to Best Buy's corporate legal team. They even stated for local news outlet for him to expect a call and to be back to work on Monday!
Now Wednesday and still no call. Meaning first of all they couldn't find anything in the Employee Handbook to fire him on. If he had used Bestbuy in the videos, that would have been a different story. But YouTubers were never aware of his real name or that he worked at Best Buy!
If they do fire him..... (stupidly), there are Wrongful Firing Attorneys waiting in line to take the case for a sure win!!!
