Brit plans to shoot movie with his 'eye'
Rob Spencer has a video camera in the place of his left eye and can record whatever he wants. The devise is not connected to his brain and now he plans to make a movie with it.

BRITISH FILMMAKER Rob Spencer never thought that his damaged eye would actually be a blessing in disguise until he thought of a brilliant idea. This man who is a documentary film maker was looking at a mobile phone camera when he came up with a brain wave of attaching his damaged eye socket with a video camera. However shocking or painful it sounds, the man went ahead with the idea and now he has a prosthetic ‘eyeborg’ with which he plans to do a revolutionary movie.

Spencer lost his left eye as a kid in a shooting accident and the eye was removed from the socket five years ago. After his idea, he contacted engineer Kosta Grammatis in 2009 who stayed with him for three weeks and they devised a video camera for his eye. As it was an interesting and unusual project, funds were never a problem, as people were positive for working for him at no cost. The engineer asked Rob’s ocularist to make a fake eye socket so that he knew how much space he had.

Soon the duo realised that they would require the smallest camera if they want to realise their dreams. OmniVision, a California-based company that specializes in the miniature cameras found in cell phones, laptops and endoscopes donated a 3.2mm camera.
Next they used a Powerstream battery and wireless transmitters. All the elements were connected by a piece of printed circuit board that had the same thickness as a paper.

To add icing to a perfectly made cake, the devise was named by the Time’s magazine as one of the best inventions in 2009. Now he can use the camera in his eye to record whatever he wants. He also has a screen in which other people can see what he sees in real time. It is an interesting find and the camera is not connected to his brain and there is no physical harm as such.

The film maker wants to use the camera and make a movie titled 'Eye 4 an Eye', which will explore privacy issues and whether people are ‘sleepwalking into an Orwellian society’. When asked about the unusual concept he was quoted saying that if you think about it, all this technology is moving towards the body. I've already started.
