Britain is facing a drought situation - less rainfall is to blame
We in India face drought situations regularly - there is no apparent control on how best to conserve the precious commodity. Water is the essence of life and millions of dollars are spent on space projects to find out if water exists on other planets.

IT SEEMS the Environment Agency has warned that more than 50% of Britain is in the grip of a drought – it would be the worst case of shortage of water since 1976.

As per available reports more than 35-million people in Britain are now living in areas, which have been affected by drought and water shortage conditions have been declared officially in Midlands and the South West.

Experts feel that some portions of Britain today are drier than it was in 1976 when Britain had faced the worst drought in a century. Restrictions had already been imposed on use of water for non-drinking proposes like gardening in order to conserve the precious commodity.

The Anglian Water is one company, which has introduced the hosepipe ban and it plans to buy 30-million liters of water every day from Severn Trent to ease the difficult situation.

The drought is a result of inadequate rainfall and, everyone must use it judiciously – schools might have to close early and business houses would also have to go in for suitable measures to tide over the crisis.

It is a known fact that lack of proper rainfall affects not only a farmer and his crops but also wildlife. Hence, Britons need to pull up its socks to tackle the drought.
