According to a study reported in the BBC there is a lack of awareness of the disease and as many as 800,000 people who have this disease are not aware of it. In order to make people aware of the disease and also to get patients for clinical trial, three regions in England have been chosen to pilot a scheme that aims to offer 25,000 patients, with any form of diabetes, the chance to take part in clinical trials or other forms of research.
Prof Martin Gibson, from the Diabetes Research Network at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust said that such pilot test are crucial in order for the medical world to actually come up with a cure or better treatment. He also said that the whole scenario is like a dating arena whereby people and doctors would come together for a mutual cause.
