In his welcome address BUIDCO's general manager Daya Shankar Mishra said,“The ancient river Ganga is an essential part of our society. It is not only a river but it is also associated with Indian philosophy and culture. Faith and religious thoughts are also associated with it. From birth to death the value of the holy Ganga water is important. Any type of religious or social activities from birth to death are incomplete without the few sacred drops of the Ganga water. State festival of Bihar Chhath is celebrated on the banks of the river Ganga. It’s our prime duty to keep ganga clean and healthy.”
With the financial help from the World Bank, National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA), Government of India and Government of Bihar are contributing in the ratio of 70:30. The total cost of this project is Rs. 262.73cr. This project's aim is to aware common people about the conservation of the ecosystem and preservation of the cultural and religious heritage of the historical Patna.
Hindi video movie, 'Mukti Yatra' was also shown during the programme. In this movie religious value of the holy river Mother Ganga, history of Patna, communal harmony, religious rituals and festivals like Chhath are beautifully highlighted. The movie also showcased scene of the Ganga banks after the renovation and the beautification programme in 3D model designs.
The project aims at developing 6.6 km of the river bank. In first phase it will include development of 21 ghats and landscaping between the ghats.In the second phase 6 ghats from Nauzar Ghat (Chitragupta Ghat) to Didarganja Ghat will be developed. And in the thjrd phase Digha ghat to Collectrate Ghat would be developed and beautified.
All the ghats would be inter connected by a passage running parallel to the course of the river. Change rooms, washrooms, food kiosks, cafe, designer terraces, beautiful parks, toilets and statues will be constructed on the ghats of the river.
Under this mega project an eco centre at Collerctrate Ghat,audio-visual centre at Barhawa Ghat, reading centre-cum-cafe at Patna College Ghat,Dolphin Research Centtre at Gaya Ghat, electric crematorium at Gulbi Ghat and community-cum–cultural centre at Bhadra Ghat have also been proposed by the agency.
