Bundelkhand party demands statehood for the region
A Bundelkhand based regional party, Bundelkhand Akikrit Party, has demanded statehood for the region as well as the breakup of large states into smaller ones.
THE BUNDELKHAND Akikrit Party has demanded re-organisation of the bigger states of India into smaller ones in accordance of with population and area figures.

The party claims that Indian states as of today have no synchronisation on these two figures. On one side with a population of twenty crores is Uttar Pradesh and on the other side are petite states like Sikkim with a total population of six lakhs. Similarly, there is Rajasthan which has an area of three and half lakh sq Kms, while Lakshadweep has an area of only 32 Sq Kms.

According to facts, the rate of growth of small territories is much more than the large ones. For instance, the annual per capita income in Bihar is just Rs 3835 while a smaller state like Himachal Pradesh has one at Rs 18750. Smaller states are also far ahead in education and health care development.

Sanjay Pandey, the convener of the political party, claims that if India has to join the tally of developed countries by 2020 then, the reorganisation of states and territories is indispensable. He stated that Bundelkhand, as a whole has suffered as it geographically is a part of two large states. Instead, is the region was granted statehood, it would become one of the most developed states of country.

Pandey added that till regions like Bundhelkand and Vidarbha faced starvation, envisaging India as a developed nation was meaningless. And this development could only happen on an intensive scale by regional autonomy and the creation of a separate state.

He pointed out that Haryana was called the area of grass and weed before achieving statehood. Today, the per capita income of the state is Rs 16200. He also gave the example of America; how the nation with fifty small states had achieved unparalleled success.
