Authorities looking into the case said that the mishap occurred near Salt Range, and the cause was ascertained as brake failure. The mishap occurred when the students along with their principal and teachers had gone for an excursion to Murree and Islamabad and was en route to Faisalabad. The group belonged to Millat Grammar School in Faisalabad.
Speaking to the local media, DPO Syed Ali Mohsin said that the bus overturned as its brake did not respond while the driver was taking a steep turn. Another rescue officer Kamran Rasheed said that as the bus overturned the trapped students and teachers, most of them who were dead had to be dragged out of the bus by cutting the body of the bus.
Many of the students were also seriously injured and have been shifted to Fauji Foundation Hospital Kallar Kahar. The ones who are in critical state have been referred to hospitals in Rawalpindi. However, an emergency has been called across all hospitals near the accident site so as to cope up with the situation.
