Bus, taxi, auto drivers to be given certificates for good behavior with passengers
West Bengal Minister for Sports and transport Madan Mitra launched a new initiative, wherein bus, taxi, auto drivers and conductors would be handed over certificates for their good behaviour with passengers. This initiative was announced at a rally in Barasat on 20th of February. These certificates will help drivers and conductors receive bank loans as well.
This was not the only good news, as he also announced about some new projects, new routes, new buses and magic cars. The important projects announced were Magic car route from Rajarhat to Barasat via Madhyamgram and Kamduni, Chakla to Kolkata RG Kar hospital bus route, from Maslandpur to Champapukur area and others, reported The Statesman.

Almost, about twenty new bus routes were announced, and a rate chart is also expected to be publised soon for the autos of North 24 Parganas. Mitra was accompanied by the District Magistrate Mr Sanjay Bansal, MP of Barasat, Mrs Kakuli Ghosh Dastidar at the rally. He also spoke to the auto drivers and asked them to be more responsible and not heckle passengers.

This initiative must have been taken by the minister in the wake of the increasing number of rape cases in Kolkata, involving taxi drivers. Late last year, a 13 year old girl was gang-raped inside a taxi in Park Street, Kolkata. The latest one being the rape of a 25 year old girl, who boarded a taxi, after which she was taken to a deserted spot, where she was forcibly raped inside a truck by five youths yesterday.
