Around 33 people died and around 17 people were injured when a train rammed into a bus in Kanshiram Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, at around 1:55 am. The bus was carrying around 80 people who were returning home from a wedding party.
A NIGHTMARE awaited a bus carrying passengers, who were returning from a wedding party, as the bus crashed with a train, Chhapra Mathura Express, leaving 33 persons dead and 17 injured. The accident took place in Kanshiram Nagar in Uttar Pradesh at around 1:55 am. There were around 80 people inside the bus. Most of the injured people are undergoing treatment in a nearby Etah Hospital.

According to one of the local administrators, Selva Kumar, the bus was supposedly hit by the train when the axle of the bus broke and it was stranded near the crossing. But surprisingly, he added, that no one inside the train was injured. The bride and the groom also survived the accident as they were travelling in another vehicle.

Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh has expressed grief over the accident and announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakhs each for the families of people who are dead, Rs 50,000 for seriously injured and Rs 10,000 for those who received minor injuries. He has also ordered an inquiry into the accident.

Railway accidents are common in India. The Indian government must keep a close eye on the issue as this incident in UP is considered to be the biggest accident in the year 2011. One of the worst accidents that were ever recorded in the Indian Railways history took place in 1981, where a train fell into a river in Bihar killing around 800 people.
