By following 5D’s, one can get rid of tobacco, says educationist Raj Kalra
In India, there were about 7 lakh deaths on account of consumption of tobacco during the year 2000 and in case the present status continues, the deaths on this account could be double by the year 2020, said Raj Kishore Kalra, Educationist, President Social Welfare Society and Patron of various local NGOs on the eve of World No Tobacco Day.
Giving a reference of Dr. Arun Kochhar, renowned cardiologist, Kalra said, the deaths due to consumption of tobacco could cross the figure of 10 millions. In the report, it is said that the tobacco contains more than 4000 chemical substances out of which some are very fast which creates itching and 60 per cent chemicals contains cortisones which instigates the cancer disease. The consumption of tobacco have cancer effect on the organs of the body, heart, chest, teeth and stomach diseases. In a report given by Dr.Hardip Singh, advisor in psychology department it is said that with the consumption of one cigarette, 8 hours of life are reduced of a person.
He further stated that in case a person interested to get rid of tobacco, can leave it by taking care of 5Ds – First -Debreathing, Second – Drink, in other words consuming minimum 8 glass of water, orange juice, milk, Third - De-Tobacco – to forget tobacco, do something else like keeping Chingum in mouth, listening to music or reading to books, Fourth – Discuss, discussing opening with your friends on this subject, and Fifth – Delay, in other words keep away from tobacco and in case of its desire, count 1 to 100 and reverse.
Kalra said, the importance of celebrations of World
No Tobacco Day can only be maintained in case we take strong and serious steps to eradicate this social-evil from the society by associating with the government and NGOs.
