CAG controversy: need for impartial selections
It refers to yet other controversy generated around institution of Comptroller & Auditor General (CAG) of India when Union Minister V Narainsamy declined news-reports mentioning him to make CAG a multi-member body.

SURPRISINGLY, THE present CAG, Vinod Rai is being targeted by those from the very government, which appointed him for this post. Things can be well imagined if such an appointment would have been made by some opposition party in power.

However present episode creates sufficient doubt in future posting of CAG being done with extra care to place some party-man on the post.

It is time that new norms may be set up for appointments on posts like those of CAG, Election Commissioners and similar other posts requiring impartiality. This may be done by a committee comprising also of Prime Minister and Opposition Leader in the manner Vigilance Commissioners and Information Commissioners are appointed.

It may be noted that election commissioners have earlier been under controversy for being alleged to be favourites of ruling party having appointed them.
