Indian Hockey has signed a multiple crore deal with Cairn India, oil and gas exploration company, which is also a part of the Vedanta Group. The deal is said to have been signed for three years for the national men's, women's, juniour and the senior teams.
It is a great initiative, which could play an important role in improving Indian hockey. It also seems to be one of the major development for Indian hockey in recent times, which Indian hockey must benefit from it.
For any sport to move ahead it is very important that the sport receives good financial support. So, Cairn India
seems to have come at the right time for Hockey India. The money needs to be used wisely by Hockey India, as India lacks in many quarters so this money can be used to take the players facilities' level to international standards. If we are to compete with top countries of the world, better training facilities need to be provided to the players, and help them excel. The current standards are not bad but fail to meet the standards of top hockey playing nations such as Germany, Holland, and Australia.
Dr Sunil Bharati in this nnis video said, “It is a multiple crore per annum contract. These funds will be channeled to develop techniques to impart better training, equipment and use the latest technology to enhance the game. Once you have the right combination of these, the outcomes will be automatic and has to be positive.
It seems that the first edition of the Hockey India League paid off, as there were many Indian youngsters who showed that if they are nurtured properly, they are sure to reprieve Indian hockey. Hockey India needs to pump in some money in many rural areas of the country, where the true talented hockey players can be found in abundance. Apart from it, they should also look towards the development of the game at the school and the college levels, which would help in more youngsters pick up a hockey stick and play.
