On the eve of 21st anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition, the Campus Front of India organised a rally in Jawaharlal Nehru University late evening yesterday. There were around 100 people who attended the rally in JNU. The rally organisers primarily demanded for the re-construction of Babri Masjid along with other demands.
The rally started at 9:45 pm and finished around 12 pm. The people, primarily students gathered in the rally started their march from Ganga dhaba till Savarmati hostel within the JNU campus, shouting slogans. After they reached their final destination, Savarmati hostel, an effigy of Fascism had been made, which was also burnt. 'Fate of Fascism' was written on that particular effigy.
The 16th century Babri Masjid was demolished in 1992 by Hindu volunteers. Obaid-ur-Rehman, Delhi state President, Campus Front of India said, ''The demolitions should not have happened. It is the duty of the government to protect it.''After the demolition, it led to an increase in the communal tension between Hindus and Muslims.
Obaid feels that all such monuments should be protected by the government. He added, ''The government should protect such institutions, irrespective of the religion, be it Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christians etc.''
The rally witnessed support from several front including Democratic Student Union and United Student Dalit Forum. Akhbar Choudhary, the President of Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union was also present.
