Can Chandrababu Naidu waive off the crop loan that he promised during the polls?
To win elections, sometimes political leaders make promises which are unimplementable. Now that is the situation of Chandrababu Naidu and also K. Chandrasekhara Rao. Both had promised to waive the crop loan. Rao promised the farmers to waive the crop loans upto one lakh rupees only. However, Chandrababu Naidu wanted to waive off whatever amount the farmer had irrespective of his land holding.

The difficulty of Chandrababu Naidu is not over. It is no doubt that he has come to power after a long period of ten years. But the real trouble is that now he has to execute his election promises, which are burdensome.

The first of his election promise is waiver of crop loans for farmers, which are projected at more than seventy thousand crores of rupees. Besides this huge task, he has to look after his self help group sisters (SHGs) whose loans are predicted at more than 25 thousand crores of rupees. If we remember the remaining promises, they are- a job to every household and an unemployment relief of two thousand rupees per month.

Whether he signs the fulfillment of these promises as his first government order or not, it has to be seen. Few days back a former PCC President had demanded Chandrababu Naidu to fulfill his election promises in a stipulated time of three months.

In the last two days, the Chief of TDP Chandrababu Naidu is constantly thinking on how to get out of this promise of waiving crop loans, as reported in some sections of the media. Some have leaked out that Chandrababu Naidu is thinking to push the idea of rescheduling of present crop loans to get fresh loans. Later he would think of waiving them with the help of Modi Government.

But re -scheduling of present crop loans is not that easy task and central Government has to accept it. It is only possible if any disaster takes place, but it is an election promise. The Election Commission had also asked the TDP, how the party will fulfill its promise, but he did not reply.

Small Difference in the Vote Share

The difference of voting share between the TDP-BJP combine and YSRCP, is just 1.59 percent. If it comes to TDP alone it is behind to YSRCP. The share of TDP-BJP combine is 46.86 and YSRCP is 44.90.

The small difference in the votes costs YSRCP loosing the power. If TDP had contested on its own the result would have been different.

Promise of Waiver of loans brought TDP into power

Regarding waiver of crop loans the YSRCP had out rightly denied. It was a great risk to keep up the promise, that party might have got that idea. But he had told that the SHG loans which are estimated at twenty thousand crores would be waived. If Chandrababu will not keep up to the promise, farmers will be in retreat mood.
