SKIPPER MS DHONI and his team left today (September 9), at 11am for the Compaq cup triangular series in Sri Lanka, boarding a special Air India plane. With the jet Airways stike entering the second day, the Air India aranged for a special flight for Team India. The special flight will fly from Chennai to Bangalore and pick up the seven members of the team and will reach Colombo later in the day. After dropping the players in Colombo, the flight will return to Chennai. Earlier the Jet Airways was supposed to take the cricketets to Colombo for the Compaq Cup and South Africa for the ICC Champions Trophy.

India's coach, Gary Kirsten believes that the Indian Team, led by MS Dhoni are very much capable of grabbing the top spot in the ICC ODI rankings as the team is full of young talent as well as experienced campaigners who are all geared up to impress one and all. Currently, South Africa are leading the ICC rankings table and India are placed second, trailing by just one rating point. But if Team India manages to win all the three matches including the final of the Compaq cup, it will gain two rating points and would move onto the top spot for the first time since the rankings were introduced in October 2002.

Kirsten, speaking at the press conference in Chennai said that the team will miss injured Virendra Sehwag and Zaheer Khan but still the young Indian team is booming with confidence. He added that the team is not demoralised by its below par performance in the Twenty20 World Cup, where the defending champions failed to even make it to the semifinal stage.

Stressing on the fitness area, which holds the key, Kirsten felt that the BCCI Corporate Cup would have provided the team much needed pratice and would help them to perform better in the Compaq cup.

In the first match of the Compaq club, the hosts, Sri Lanka thrashed the New Zealanders by 97 runs. Team India will play its first match in the ongoing Compaq club on September 11, against New Zealand.

Will Team India manage to win the Compaq cup and claim the No 1 spot in the ICC ODI rankings, only time and their performance will tell. All the best wishes to Team India!
