THE SERIES could not have been poised for a better finish. Two teams fiercely competing with each other into the last day of the series knowing that the trophy clearly hangs in the balance. With India being the favourites, the Aussies can by no means be written off yet. Their response in the last over bowled yesterday itself was one full of aggression and sent the message that they are going for the title. They know it will be an uphill task. But have the world champions really made everything easy? They are the No 1 International Cricket Council (ICC) ranked team, for they have proved themselves time and time again and have grasped victory from the jaws of defeat.

The equation is pretty straight forward for the Aussies. They have to go all attack on the last day of the Test match hoping that they can overhaul the Indian target. The Indians forgetting all the hospitality will make it as difficult as possible for the Aussies. The Indians will employ the same tactics as on the third day of the Test match. You could again see an 8-1 field with Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma bowling outside the off stump asking Hayden and Katich to go over the top and win the match if they want to. The Indians clearly are in a stronger position as they have got runs on the board and the Aussies are supposed to go past them scoring at just above four runs per over. No team has scored at that rate in the ongoing Test match and it will need a miraculous effort from the Aussies if they want to taste victory here.

It could be a good ploy to make changes in the batting order by sending Watson and White up the batting order and see how the chase goes. For the Aussies have also got to be wary of not losing the Test match in going for a win. The world champions have often been humbled in this series and have been the second best team going in to the last day but all this would be history if two three Aussie batsmen could play well and get closer to the title. The Indians had a batting collapse but have done enough to make it difficult for the Aussies. It is up to the Aussies now to make a match of it and clinch the Border-Gavaskar trophy from the jaws of defeat.
