Canonizing of first married couple in modern times by Pope Francis: Shift towards family spirituality
The parents of Saint Therese of Lisieux, also known "The Little Flower", have been canonized by Pope Francis as first married couple in modern times. Conferring sainthood to married couple is being seen as a move to emphasize the importance of the catholic Christian family life.

Louis and Zelie Martin, parents raised to sainthood, had helped the sick, dying, beggars and uncared kids. They also had brought up the girl whom Pope Pius X had called "the greatest saint of modern times".

The Church deems that marriage and family life are extremely important to Catholics. Pope John Paul II had also stressed over and over again that "the future of humanity passes by way of the family". It seems that, once again the Church is going to lay stress on raising awareness of family spirituality; faith in God and building capacity for family ministry within dioceses.

On the occasion of World Youth Day-2013 in Rio de Janeiro, Pope Francis had said "Dear friends, it is certainly necessary to give bread to the hungry – this is an act of justice. But there is also a deeper hunger, the hunger for a happiness that only God can satisfy, the hunger for dignity."

"There is neither real promotion of the common good nor real human development when there is ignorance of the fundamental pillars that govern a nation, its non-material goods: life, which is a gift of God, a value always to be protected and promoted; the family, the foundation of coexistence and a remedy against social fragmentation; integral education, which cannot be reduced to the mere transmission of information for the purposes of generating profit; health, which must seek the integral well-being of the person, including the spiritual dimension, essential for human balance and healthy coexistence; security, in the conviction that violence can be overcome only by changing human hearts," he had added.

Here is another important quote of Pope Francis on family life goes like this: "Not only would I say that the family is important for the evangelization of the new world. The family is important, and it is necessary for the survival of humanity. Without the family, the cultural survival of the human race would be at risk. The family, whether we like it or not, is the foundation."
