Manchester City stand favourite to win the Capital One Cup finals against Sunderland, which will be played later today at Wembley. But, take nothing away from Sunderland, who has looked a strong side of late and the team in red and white stripes could create a great upset, if they get their act together as well. One needs to credit Gus Poyet, Sunderland's manager for their recent form. All in all, an entertaining final is on the cards for the neutrals to enjoy.
With players such as Adam Johnson in ominous form, it is not an impossible task for Sunderland to defeat Manchester City. Other players such as Borini, Cattermole, Gardner, Ki need to come up with their A class game to clinch the title. Borini and Johnson could play an important role for Sunderland, as their recent form has troubled defenders in the English Premier League.
They may not have world
class defenders, but have enough experience in the form of O'Shea and Brown, who knows what it takes to win crucial games - the need of the hour.
But, City have too much of class in their attacking line, which can be justified by their goal scoring record in the EPL, only bettered by Liverpool. Aguero's return from injury after an absence of five matches due to a hamstring injury could spell disaster for Sunderland, for he is a class act and alongside Negredo, the pair looks top notch. To rub salt into Sunderland's wound, City have Dzeko, Silva, Yaya Toure, Navas etc, who could easily find their way into the scoresheet.
It may be due to the number of star players that Manchester City possess that the players may feel pressurised to win the competition. With Sunderland considered second favourite, Poyet's men may play freely without any pressure and who knows if this would bring the best out of the Sunderland players.
If City win this competition, it is going to be their first title under Manuel Pelligrni after joining the cash-rich English club as manager.
