The carbon emissions of the world is reaching a precarious state and scientists are worried. The 5 per cent rise from 2008 is resulting in different temperatures. Quick corrections must be made.
THE CARBON emission are taking a toll on the environment of the world. According to the International Energy Agency, carbon emissions went up by 5 per cent from 2008. If the rate of the emission isn’t kept within check then the limit of 2 degree in carbon emissions set in U.N. climate change talks in Cancun, Mexico, last year, would easily be crossed.

The steady rise in carbon emissions has placed the world in a dangerous territory as it has reached a place, which was thought to be reached in 2020.Talking about the same, Fatih Birol of the International Energy Agency Carbon emission showed concern. The chief economist said, “The world has edged incredibly close to the level of emissions that should not be reached until 2020 ... it will be extremely challenging to succeed in achieving this global goal agreed in Cancun." In 2010 the carbon emission was recorded to be 30.6 gigatonnes and if the 2 per cent goal of the UN has to be attained then the extent of emission that can happen till 2020 is 32 gigatonnes of emission only, which is a utopian scenario.
Believing the same are some scientists, who also feel that the above assumption is too optimistic and the extent of carbon emission till 2020 would stretch upto 4 degree. Even in a British journal "Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society,” a scientist said that the 2 degree rise in emission is very difficult to achieve and if it exceeds the2 degree extent then it would have some grave consequences. To top the list of the consequences would be a huge parity in the temperatures of the world, a glimpse of which we are already getting in our erratic weather conditions.According to a survey conducted by Wikipedia in 2007, China was the country to emit the most Carbon in the world. They contribute as much as 22.30 per cent of the global total to the carbon emission. The citizens of the India have not reached the world standards as it is one of the developing countries, which contributes a bare minimum of 5.24 per cent to the global total of carbon emission.Scientists are of the view that if the prediction about 4 degrees is true then across the century there would be a great upheaval in the eco system, which in turn would affect all the people of the planet. Some scientist also believe that within the next century this will increase the world sea level by two meters, which in turn would displace 2.5 per cent of the population. Even the rain forests of eastern Amazonia, Central America and some parts of Africa would be affected.Kevin Anderson, co-editor of "Four degrees and beyond said that since we know that the emission would go up we must also anticipate the changes that it would bring with it. Adding to that he also said, “Unless we see some significant changes, we are going to see some much higher temperatures.”
