Around 1.85 lakh candidates appeared for CAT 2011 from 22 October to 18 November 2011 in 68 test centres across 36 cities for getting into the 13 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and various other management schools. The CAT 2011 had two sections, first Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation and second on Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning.

After the Common Admission Test 2011 results all the 13 IIMs will announce their shortlist and will send individual interview call letters to all shortlisted candidates for further selection process. Indian Institutes of Managements and other leading B-schools in the country consider various parameters to intake the candidates including academic performance, relevant work experience and other similar inputs for short listing and ranking of candidates at various stages.

In CAT 2011, candidates with engineering background dominated the total number of applicants followed by the candidates from Commerce and BBA backgrounds including female candidates.
