Cattle thieves shoot at villagers in Gurgaon, escape
Surender, a resident of Carterpuri said that people are protesting against the police inaction and lack of security in the area. 'We are demanding compensation for villagers, who have lost their buffaloes.'
A MAN was injured after alleged cattle thieves fired upon a group of villagers chasing them on Friday night in Carterpuri village, adjacent to posh Palam Vihar locality in Gurgaon. The incident happened, when the cattle thieves, who had come on a Tata 407 shot at Gulshan Yadav around 12.45 AM, while trying to flee from the village.

The shooting led to a massive demonstration on Saturday morning as villagers from Carterpuri and adjoining areas blocked the main Palam Vihar roundabout. The protesters were demanding compensation for the families, whose buffaloes have been stolen in the past two months.

Eyewitnesses revealed that thieves numbering about 6 had come with the intention of stealing buffaloes from the village. Two of the thieves remained seated in the TATA 407, while one of them stood guard and rest three entered the village scouting for buffaloes, they added.

However, the intruders were spotted by the villagers, who were on a night patrol and given a chase during which the robbers fired and injured Gulshan. The criminals fired two shots, one in the air and another aimed at Gulshan, which grazed past him, causing an injury.

Locals alleged that police personnel manning PCR 23, who were on patrol duty failed to act timely and this led to the escape of the criminals. “Had the police acted timely, these criminals could have been arrested but they chose to remain spectators”, said a villager, who refused to to divulge his name, adding that around 25 buffaloes have been stolen.

Surender, a resident of Carterpuri said that people are protesting against the police inaction and lack of security in the area. “We are demanding compensation for villagers, who have lost their buffaloes and a number of shops, which have been broken into by these professional robbers.”

Meanwhile, blockade of the Palam Vihar roundabout caused problems to the office goers as a lot of traffic from Delhi coming through Bijwasan, old Gurgaon and even Najafgarh passes through it.

A number of cars were seen stranded in the jam as protesters did not allow the movement of vehicles since 7 am in the morning. Senior police officials present on the spot were seen talking to the angry protesters, who included even the women and the elderly.
