CBI conducts raids on P Chidambaram and his son
In connection with a case against the son of former finance minister P Chidambaram, the CBI conducted raids at the Chennai residence of the senior congress leader and his son Karti on Tuesday.

Not only this, the agency also carried out raids at various other locations in Delhi, Gurugram and Mumbai, which include offices and residence of Karti. It is, however, interesting to note that the agency didn't rule out the role of P Chidambaram as he was the finance minister at the time when these irregularities took place.

As per reports, Karti Chidambaramhad allegedly influenced the officials of the foreign investment promotion board (FIPB) to regularise some of the "unapproved" investments while his father was the finance minister.

In the allegation in the FIR against Karti and others, it was mentioned that at least an amount of Rs 3.5 crore was paid by INX Media to companies directly or indirectly controlled by Karti for influencing the FIPB decision. INX Media was promoted by Peter Mukerjea and his wife Indrani.

Karti, however, maintained his ground saying that he had not done anything wrong while the raids were taking place at his offices and his residence. He said there was a big political conspiracy behind these raids against him. He further said that the motive behind these raids was to censor the voice of his father.

The former finance minister, P Chidambaram, hit out at the Centre saying that there are no allegations that involve him in the case. Adding to his statement, he said that it is all a big conspiracy and the government is using CBI as a means to target his son and his friends.

However, the CBI sources said that they would be examining Peter and his wife Indrani, Karti and others. If need be, they said, they would also call Chidambaram for examination.
