CBI court grants bail to Advani, Joshi and Uma Bharti in Babri Masjid demolition case but rejects discharge application
A special CBI court on Tuesday granted bail to BJP leaders LK Advani, Murali Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti, along with nine others in the Babri Masjid demolition case.

The court granted bail to them on personal bonds of Rs 50,000 each. However, the special CBI court rejected their discharge application.

All the 12 accused had been asked to appear before the CBI special court on May 25 and 26, but had sought an exemption. The court later called them on May 30, also saying that no further exemption shall be allowed.

The demolition of the 16th century mosque had triggered communal riots in the country, greatly refuting India's claim of being the largest secular country.

In the previous month, the Supreme Court had revived criminal charges against these top leaders, overturning a trial court's decision to let them off on a technicality.

Advani, Bharti, Joshi, Vishnu Hari Dalmai, Sadhvi Rithambara, Vinay Katiyar, Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, Ram Vilas Vedanti, Mahant Dharamdas, Baikunth Lal Sharma, Champat Rai Bansal, and Shiv Sena leader Satish Pradhan were all present before the court on Tuesday.
