CBSE urges schools gear up for 5th International Day of Yoga with training in Common Yoga Protocol
The CBSE-affiliated schools have been asked to gear up for the up-coming International Day of Yoga On June 21 vide their circular on the subject "Celebration of 5th International Day of Yoga".

"The Ministry of Ayush, Govt. of India will be observing 5th International Day of Yoga (IDY) on 21st June, 2019. The centre-piece of IDY 2019 would be the mass yoga demonstrations wherein the participants pursue the drill of Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) in harmony," informs the circular reasoning that 'since youth in India is the dominant demographic group and has the power to take the nation forward, so the students should play an enlarged role in different events and activities organized to observe IDY 2019.

In order to promote yoga among youth, the schools have been suggested to organize yoga workshops for teachers and students; Introduce yoga programs in annual festivals of school; take steps to expose students to CYP which is a 45 minute sequence of relatively simple yoga drills put together as protocol by the yoga expert.

"Qualified yoga trainers would be able to provide complete CYP training to students over 15 one hour sessions which can ideally be spread over 15 days," adds the circular while urging the schools to join in this country wide movement for the promotion of health and well-being with enthusiasm.

It is leaned that the Ministry Human Resource Development has issued a letter to all the universities and the CBSE to start organizing the Yoga Day activities from 2 May to 21 June. It has been envisaged that in these 50 days, yoga will be taught and practiced in colleges and universities of the country as well as the CBSE-affiliated schools. The UGC has created a university monitoring portal to capture the yoga activities being organised by various universities.

Meanwhile the United Nations has notified that the fifth IYD will be celebrated on Thursday, 20 June. At the global level, the theme of the IYD is going to be "Yoga Session with Yoga Masters."
